What I have discovered is that leadership is a solitary role assumed by one person.(but criticized by many)
Many people presume that just because someone may have a title that it would give that person magistrate to be followed, when in fact people will follow those that inspire and can deliver a clear vision of where he or she is going.
Imagine: You are asked to open a door and enter; upon entering – the door is shut behind you and it is dark. Suddenly you may be overcome with feelings of apprehension, anxiety possibly fear. You have no idea of the layout of the room, dimensions or what may be in front of you. You stumble forward in total darkness struggling to find your way.
Like wise, if a leader can not deliver a clear vision of where he or she is going, no one will follow, no one wants to stumble in darkness.
Have you ever felt that you are not going anywhere in life? Maybe you have failed to turn the lights on in your room. How do you create light where there is darkness? This may take work but it is fun trying: you need to visualize the picture of where you want to go, what you want to do, what you’d like to evolve into and outline how you plan on getting there.
That is what I call turning on the lights.
Before you can lead anyone … you must lead yourself. Once you start walking, don’t be surprised when you look back to find others going for a stroll with you.
Daisy Says: Turn on the lights.
“There go my people. I must find out where they are going so I can lead them.” (Alexandre Ledru-Rollin)
