I ran across this man’s name for the first time -Bill Bartmann- and I went scouting for more information and after hearing his story it is my observation that there seems to be an underlying theme when it comes to success: persistence, focus and determination.
It is also documented that success is simple if you follow a proven plan, in addition they go on to add that success can be duplicated by doing what successful people do.
I suppose that it is in the ‘doing’ where it all starts.
(bill batman: change your focus change your life)
In the history of billionaires, Bill Bartmann stands alone. He’s the only former homeless person and gang member ever to have made a billion dollars. Bill went from eating out of dumpsters and living under a bridge viaduct to having after-tax, take-homepay in a single year of more than $100 million and being listed as the 25th richest person in America.
Bill Bartmann worked in a slaughterhouse, was an alcoholic at age 17, and at one point, was paralyzed from the waist down. It was his way of thinking along with persistence and focus that enabled him to overcome all of that and become a self-made billionaire.
Here’s another special treat, Bills nine steps to success:
1. Make sure the goal you set is really your goal
2. Make a promise to yourself instead of setting a goal
3. Clearly identify your promise
4. Identify your personal motivator
5. Construct a promise plan
6. Review your plan regularly
7. Tell yourself you are going to fulfill your promise regularly
8. Tell others you are going to fulfill your promise
9. Envision the result
he mentions it is important to review this process every day to maintain your focus!
Bill Batman says:
“A lot of people make promises they don’t keep and they hurt a lot of others along the way, mostly they hurt themselves. At a very young age my mother instilled in us the power of our spoken word… and she was intolerant of ‘joking’ around. We were allowed to let our imagination run but when it came time to speak, we had to ‘think’ before our mouths opened – and that takes will power.”
I believe that a promise is a spoken word. A word when spoken has the power to create. This creation process therefor starts with each one of us. I believe our word is in fact our promise.
Let’s not even think about the ‘promises’ we have made… what about the ‘word’ we have given? They go under many titles: I’ll call you. I’ll get to that. I’ll do that next week.
It sounds innocent, but every time you say you are going to do something… you have uttered a promise; and if you can’t keep your word… than your word is worthless and so is your promise.
