The Magic Lamp

The original story of Aladdin is a Middle-Eastern folk tale about an impoverished young man named Aladdin, in a Chinese city, who is recruited by a sorcerer – who passes himself off as the brother of Aladdin’s late father- to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a booby-trapped magic cave. After the sorcerer attempts to double-cross him, Aladdin finds himself trapped in the cave. Fortunately, Aladdin retains a magic ring lent to him by the sorcerer. When he rubs his hands in despair, he inadvertently rubs the ring, and a djinni appears, who takes him home to his mother. Aladdin is still carrying the lamp, and when he tries to clean it, a second, far more powerful djinni appears, who is bound to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp. With the aid of the djinni of the lamp, Aladdin becomes rich and powerful and marries princess Badroulbadour, the Emperor’s daughter. The djinni builds Aladdin a wonderful palace – far more magnificent than that of the Emperor himself.

The sorcerer returns and is able to get his hands on the lamp by tricking Aladdin’s wife, who is unaware of the lamp’s importance, by offering to exchange “new lamps for old”. He orders the djinni of the lamp to take the palace to his home. Fortunately, Aladdin retains the magic ring and is able to summon the lesser djinni. Although the djinni of the ring cannot directly undo any of the magic of the djinni of the lamp, he is able to transport Aladdin to Maghreb, and help him recover his wife and the lamp and defeat the sorcerer.

Just as Aladdin found himself trapped in a cave, many times we feel trapped by our own life circumstances; such as in the story of Aladdin when he is given the ring by his imposter ‘uncle’, we are given tools whether through education or trade and it is in our ability to use the tools to bring out the magic within us wherein the secret lies.

Many times we find that the journey takes us to places we’ve never dreamed of and it is in the journey and the cycle of life that we come to discover that we can not undo our past ( Although the djinni of the ring cannot directly undo any of the magic of the djinni of the lamp) but we can transform it because the magic of life never lies outside of us but it is within us.

Think of your mind as Aladdin’s lamp. The mental pictures you create are like rubbing that lamp, asking for your wish to come true, and receiving the inner guidance how exactly to make your wish come true. Your wish is your command! As you start manifesting your desires, you’ll see how easy it is to just keep asking and receiving wish after wish.

Within the space you’ve created, savor that feeling of pure joy of finally having everything that you’ve always wanted. Everything you’ve ever dreamed of. And even more than you ever thought possible…go ahead, think about it right now… It’s an amazing feeling isn’t it? You can make that feeling a reality when you start to BELIEVE that you hold the magic to your lamp and begin releasing the djinni of your lamp, your own power of attraction…
