There seems to be too many people who expect success and happiness for a small price and in some cases for nothing at all. Then to add to the delusion of such expectation, they believe that they can keep it without continued work or improvement.
Most people today lack a deep-down desire to achieve a worthwhile life by taking time to work through the full development and use of their own abilities and personal effort.
I have achieved minor success and with that came a lot of work. I’ve also lost much for lack of planning and foresight the success I’ve achieved was also fleeting.
Yet not to diminish the effort… success is achieved by doing the best you can with “what you’ve got”.
We can’t deny that work is work! There isn’t a vocation or career in the world that is totally free of at least a few distasteful tasks. There will usually be a little pain before a little gain. The dairy farmer must clean his barn. The salesman must keep his records. The student must invest time reading and so on. The disagreeable must be taken along with the pleasant — that is part of living a realistic and rewarding life.
When we take the bad with the good, we soon may be pleasantly surprised that the work that seemed so tedious and uninspiring becomes endurable, and satisfying.
Some of the best opportunities in life are the ones we create.
For me, personal development is a lifelong pursuit because life is a work in progress. We are the artist with a fresh canvass each day. There will never be a day that will not require dedication, discipline, good judgment, energy, and the feeling that we can improve. Each day offers an opportunity for improvement. Each moment will provide for advancement or retreat as we pursue our goals.
As a parent, child, spouse, friend, citizen, leader and employee, we can all improve our performance.
We are responsible for our own personal development. It–is a solo act. Self-improvement begins at home, inside our minds. When we spend our life learning how to live, we will be pleasantly rewarded. Living is a performance art that requires us to do the hard work if we are going to do it well.
Life is an ongoing journey, with lots of beginnings and continuations. We can continue to get better when we intentionally do better. We know to do better by doing… not just thinking.
