Break The Pattern

Picture this for a minute:

A young man, barely thirty years old, stands outside by the building where he works. He is on his lunch break. He ponders on his life observing how things have not been easy and way too many bumps on his journey and not much happiness. He’s not doing what he wants to do. Relationships are empty, no real partner to adventure and grow with, the future looking really gray. No need to dream because everything looks hopeless.

The most depressing part of his story was the realization that the next 10 years of his life would be no better than the previous ones… only older.

Have you ever had a moment like that?
The moment where you question the future?
That the next ten years of your life will most likely mirror the previous ten?

Now let’s stretch this picture out a little further…

changeAs he stood there by the building looking down the long winding road of parked cars and tightly knit window shops, he noticed a sign he hadn’t seen before. They were offering a course in something he’d contemplated a few years back, this was only a few doors down.

He looked at the watch on his wrist with still plenty of minutes to spare, he walked back to his building, opened the door– to another 10 years of conformity.

Now, could you imagine what a five-second decision would have done to the rest of his life had he decided to pursue a long lost dream? A step in a new direction?

Many times we have been faced with a defining moment in our life to break the pattern. A moment’s decision that could guarantee to us that the next ten years of our life will be better then the last ten. A decision if made would begin to fulfill our dreams.

One small change. A single step in a different direction. That’s all it takes to break the cycle of monotony. That’s all it takes to get the things we really want. Think about this the next time you are at a crossroad – “same ole -same ole” or a new adventure?

Daisy Says: Routine will guarantee that the next ten years of your life will be exactly like the last.

  1. Hello Daisy… I love to take the road less traveled… and it is always a pleasure to say hello to you as I travel this road..

    Lots of love..

  2. “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.” (Robert Frost)
