There are plants that when you inhale their aroma you instantly realize that it is more than just a plant… inside your deeper recess you know that the plant is your healer.
When I inhaled the aroma of the camphor leaf, I had that instant connection.
Camphor can be used to treat a multitude of conditions. Camphor clears the mind and eases headaches. It alleviates joint and muscle pain. It acts on the nervous system and tissues, as well as the respiratory system. Camphor is also commonly recommended by Ayurvedic practitioners for the treatment of bronchitis, asthma, coughs, arthritis, rheumatism, and gout. It also can help nasal and sinus congestion, you will often see this as an ingredient in aromatherapy and cough drops for head colds. (source)
This lovely camphor tree is the only anchor tree here at my home. It is nearly 100 years old (there is a story that many years ago one of the American Presidents and his family had visited and sat under this same tree)
I have used Camphor water vapor to treat upper respiratory conditions. I simply take a cup or two of a mix of both dried and fresh camphor leaves into a large pot of boiling water (should hold 1/2 gallon of water), after the water has boiled I cover to allow the oils to be captured in the steam, then I simply remove the cover and hover over the steam with a towel over my head to capture the aroma.
