Citizen of the Year, nomination

Imagine the surprise I received when I opened the envelope and read that I was nominated to be Citizen of the Year!

What an amazing recognition.

Mayor Buddy Snowden was very gracious and kind in selecting me for this nomination. I called him to personally thank him for such a great acknowledgement and I truly was left speechless, and immensely blessed.

All I did was say…’Yes, I’ll help’. What did I gain? Friendships and an opportunity to make history as the City of Lake Helen celebrated 125 years. (more here)

I can pretty much say that in every sector that I have worked my employers have lauded me with recognition. At one point my walls were covered with awards… from employee of the year at Burger King, appreciation plaques from Metro-Dade Police Department, Realtor Rookie of the year from Keyes Company, to top recruiter trophies from National Lending. Then one day I took them all down and realized I didn’t much care for the awards – it was the doing, the achieving, the being part of something greater than me that really moved me.

Now as I delve my efforts into charity work at The Helpful Hands Foundation I have experienced something interesting about running a nonprofit – Gratitude is something you seldom get from people. Yet gratitude is how I feel when I can do something to help our human cause.
