I usually get a bit uncomfortable with any post that has the word ‘success’ in it simply because depending on the point of reference – it can be up to interpretation.
I believe that I have been successful at many things… so long as I don’t compare myself with others. Yet, I will venture forward as I delve into the similarities or patterns that make ‘success’ of the things we do.
As for myself…
A passionate sense of Mission… gauging the intensity of how I feel about the project.
Sitting down and identifying if the project is a worthy part of my life crusade (for personal growth or altruistic reasons in helping others – either way, that’s how I am wired).
Energy, how much positive mental Attitude am I contributing to the project. It’s important to see if there is any mental clutter, hindrances, or stikin’ thinkin’ about any aspect of what the project or goal is.
Set clear Goals … You can get from Florida to New York… yet it is with clear planning that you can determine how fast you will get there… is it by air, road or water… what route will you take? You get the idea…the clearer your plan the greater chance of success.
Make your Plan REAL. Too often we get so excited about the plan and fail to realize that the goal has too many moving parts that perhaps in this lifetime may not be attainable. This is not a defeatist attitude… it is a “Get down to earth….work with what you have” attitude, … work with your starting point. You can still pursue – so long as you are open to modifications and manage your expectations.
Focus on the important… Don’t allow yourself to get distracted by the small worries. Always keep the main focus — the main focus.
Build strong relationships by creating powerful interpersonal Synergy… Develop the ability to see your partner’s point of view and converge ideas.
I’ve learned so far that these qualities – have given me the confidence to take the actions necessary to move my goals towards realization… in the shortest amount of time possible. Other times, it’s taken me in a different direction than I would have never envisioned had I not STARTED. This takes me back to “start where you are with what you have”… that truly is a key component.
How many of these core qualities are visible in your performance each day? All… Some… Few?
How many of these qualities are visible in the way you SUPPORT yourself and others?
Perhaps this is an area of your performance (skill) that needs to be addressed now, not later in the year. (or when you get that degree, certificate, get older… etc)
