Crochet crochet

My father’s mother was a master crocheter, creating elegant pieces for her table and rocking chairs.

Still today I have an heirloom table mantle crafted by her ever busy hands, and it got me to thinking how wonderful it is to have something ‘one of a kind’ handcrafted by my grandmother.

So I got this brain idea that I would love to crochet a few items for my nieces, unique little pieces that they can use and perhaps too, like me – one day see the magic of the love that is placed in hand crafted items. One thing first… I need to teach me crochet! Love youtube — within a few hours I was chaining and rowing!

1I love shawls, and I figured crocheting a shawl would not be too complicated… and got busy looking for ideas. On my first shawl I learned new things! Chain – Double crochet, Single Crochet, Treble Crochet, Slip crochet, Cross over crochet and Cluster! How much fun… it felt like a whole new language, my brain was excited!!

For my niece Melanie I’m crocheting a lovely body blankie – found a lovely pink yarn, (her favorite color) and using a basket weave pattern. Simply lovely.

Then my son placed an order for a beanie hat… and I was so tickled I took him with me to the craft store so he could select his own yarn color. Again, my brain on overdrive learning new things, after undoing the work like three times I finally got it done at 4 am! All good, crocheting the beanie took me up another notch in the learning curve – learned about decrease and increase crochet, also the difference of starting it off using a circle or crocheting into the first chain (big difference!), introducing a different color to the work piece and half double crochet. wow… love it!

I do have a few more pieces I am considering making …. like a circle shawl for Ariana, and ‘Hello Kittie” purses with amigurumi pin dolls for the little nieces Rachelle and Chantell, and still thinking of what to create for Jacqueline – aside from gardening and reading I have found another thing I love!
