Cultivate Peace

It appears that we don’t need a war in America… just like clockwork here comes another trigger to allow the enemy of darkness to build unrest in our hearts.

This post in reflection of the latest news of a shooting that took place in the state of Oregon, United States. Most media outlets are describing it as “Another Mass Shooting”. let’s pause on this word: “another”.

Perhaps I have this naive thinking that the one glue that unites these “United States” is our own differences. For the most part, I want to believe that we as American people demonstrate a high tolerance to religion, politics, race, and culture. But every now and then… as if by some odd anomaly … almost in a disturbing way as if by some unseen manipulation comes “Another Mass Shooting”.

A whole massive Northern continent of people guided by codes of “The Constitution of the United States of America”, coming together as a body “We the People…”, even our currency reminds us of our humble beginnings: “In God We Trust”.

Perhaps some people think all guns should be confiscated. Then would you be willing to give up your privacy when storm-troopers kick down doors violating the Fourth Amendment rights? Where is the Second Amendment to help protect from violations of the First and the Fourth?

Former President Jimmy Carter once said…“Peace is more than the absence of war. There is an inner peace that comes from personal security and personal freedom. Peace also includes the sense of a mother and father that their children will live, that they’ll have food for them to eat, and that they won’t be subject to a lifetime of suffering that could have been prevented.”

“…suffering that could have been prevented.”

So how do we cultivate Peace? Is it something that starts in the nucleus of the home structure? Is it something that we learn as part of academic education? or could we be wired for Peace whereas hatred and war is something we learn?

For the past decade, U.S. troops have been stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. To date, thousands of servicemen and women have given their lives in these conflicts.

Peace means many things to many people… Peace is unity and starts at home.

Let us pray for Peace, it only takes a minute. If you don’t like the word “pray” then replace it with … Think.. think on Peace, think of Peace. You deserve it, the World deserves it. You may think you are not doing anything important… in fact, cultivating Peace starts with a thought, making it a daily habit for a minute creates a moment of Peace in your life and… together we can think of Peace and Together we begin to Heal. Think about Peace… it’s a very powerful act.
