Fall 2018 Garden Walk

It’s been a pretty eye soar for anyone that’s driven by my place… I’ve directed my attention to other matters and made no time to gardening. I’ve not planted anything new… and barely kept up with weeding – but after awhile, a garden does begin to look ‘seasoned’ and despite all that’s going on in my life, mine is on auto pilot.

So… come let’s go for a walk around our garden.

This is the side of the house which gets the most traffic… and I call this the “menagerie garden”, a mix of gifted and adopted plants from friends here in town.

A mix of ground covers such as sweet potato vine, lazy sue, peppermint. Then some 4’oclocks (yellow and pink), begonias, bromeliad, skullcaps, Phillopine violet, travelling Iris, Gladiolus, and some succulents and well other pretties that I don’t know names of.

the bench… a quiet place to hide away and dream, meditate… or simply just be. also… pictured is the tumeric patch, the up and coming Caribbean small hot peppers, oregano. plus i’m working with Nature in creating a green turf vine patch of unknown crawler (LOL) it’s looking really nice right now.

Below you will see pictured -Miss Helen (1 of our 4 cats), she enjoys coming out to the back patio to have coffee with me in the mornings… peaceful. It’s our girl time together.

…and what splendor it is to look up at the sky and see the Sun breaking it’s ray’s through the clouds.

Pictured below is an ancient heirloom bean… which happens to have volunteered itself from last years crop, and well, I’ve learned you don’t mess with Mother Nature – let it grow where it plants itself. This is an incredible crawler and real productive.

Growing together on the back fence I have red Morning Glory along with red Passion vine- favorite of hummingbirds.

Lemon grass borders the front gate and the Tamarind trees had to get cut back they did not like the cold last year. also.. growing in the front yard between the Lemon Grass and Tamarind tree (well, Tamarind bushes) we have two pomegranates – which really need some help.

View of the cottage from the front – eventually the vine will cover the complete wall- it will be interesting. Landscaped in a nook of the front cottage we have red Shrimp plant and native Florida rose bush. …and of-course watering the garden is a silhouette of our son Geordan (age 10) -he turned 25 this year.

Pink Grapefruits. Seriously…. citrus trees are Florida Christmas trees… they look so lovely when they turn their shades of orange.

Roselle Hibiscus (for tea), Papaya, Pineapples, sweet potatoes, and Tapioca plant (cassava aka: yuca)

So here you have a long shot of our Perma-Garden patch or as I’ve been calling it lately – “the jungle”

A few more things, here and there. Like this lovely yellow hibiscus blooming at the front gate.

and… let me showcase this other volunteer perennial vine, it’s made this it’s favorite spot at the base of the Camphor tree – a red bleeding heart. What I love about this plant is its shiny rich colored green leaves.

Lavender colored Morning glory vine growing in my back fence, I love the whimsical feel that this lovely flower vine brings to the garden.

My dear ones, this concludes our Fall 2018 Garden walk… come, sit with me and let’s enjoy this tisane blend of Roselle, Lemon Grass and Orange Leaves homegrown – we’ll call it Fall Enchantment blend.
