When we started our ‘ministry’ in helping people cope with the crisis of losing their homes, we had no idea how big of an impact we were going to have. Our campaign “Show me the Note” was just but a whisper in 2008. Within months the storm that was coming could not be stopped, so much so that judges were asking us to sit in chambers with them to answer THEIR questions. It was apparent that not just any attorney could help people… attorney’s with real estate, mortgage background, debt collection and RESPA and TILA violation were pretty much the ones that understood the scope of the mortgage fiasco… the PROBLEM – not enough of them around. The system had too many flaws, errors, and ways to hide in plain site giving the opportunity to the lending institutions to literally get away with destroying peoples lives.
but… in the eyes of the founding spirit here at The Helpful Hands Foundation, God has a plan and we know that bad things happen to good people. We see experiences as opportunities to allow us to learn and grow.
We took the foundation of our history… and decades of life careers and experiences accumulated in the field of law enforcement, experiences in both fields as licensed Realtor and Mortgage Broker, Corporate Recruiter and Trainer — all this to set the foundation in the area of Counseling, Training, capturing Human Resources and implementing various Management styles as we embarked at being part of the solution in a crumbling economy.
Through The Helpful Hands Foundation, George and myself conducted over 400 free workshops across the nation in a period of 3 years. These workshops took place in libraries, churches, community centers and even parking lots. They spanned from Florida through the East coast up to New Jersey and across to California -we even had the State Attorney General of California try to shut us up… thanks to the former Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger we were able to continue our mission in California. Freedom of speech is still an American right and offering free workshops is not a crime.
We knew we could not do it alone, our strategy was to train as many industry related specialist as possible, such as Realtors, Accountants and defunked Mortgage Brokers.
There was so much distrust in the air. The laws in place at the time only allowed 501c3 nonprofit organizations such as ours to assist and counsel homeowners, this was not good for attorneys who had not figured out how to sway the law in their favor so that they then could manipulate the industry. … and years later, they did.
The good news is… if you are in foreclosure there are still good folks willing to help people provide clarity, provide information and guidance. Not everyone needs to run to an attorney, in America people can have their voice heard in court. With a little knowledge, lots of determination, a good Foreclosure Help Coach –there is some good chance you can get back on track and get back to living.
ps: We are not attorneys, if you need representation in court please do your research and find a good attorney with a track record of success in foreclosure assistance. You don’t have to lose your home, there are many options available if you are willing to work with your lender.
