I start this post today with a question…
How long does it take for one inch of soil to form? According to soilscience:
The formation of soil is a complex process that can take more than a thousand years to produce just a single inch of soil. Soil has been defined as the upper layer of earth in which plants grow, a black or dark brown material typically consisting of a mixture of organic remains.

It’s worth repeating: 1 inch can take more than a thousand years to produce!
So it is upon US… not governments, but INDIVIDUALS… people like you and me, to build soil. Plant trees. Grow food. Make Do. Do Without.
As I pondered at how long Nature takes to create things… (or even destroy them) I concluded that as for myself it is very hard not being a hypocrite. I enjoy so many conveniences that as much as I try… I don’t want to do without which seem to promote garbage. I mean… milk comes in plastic containers, it’s shame we don’t have glass bottles delivered to our doors anymore. And, it is many similar things like that when multiplied by many of us that add to an increased human carbon footprint.
So saying that, I think we can become more conscious about how we live and consume things… and how our lifestyle can affect our planet.
Together we all can make an effort to cut back our carbon footprint. Every now and then we can close our eyes and imagine a time into the future… future where our nieces and nephews, children or grandchildren or our friend’s beloved children grown to womanhood and manhood in a world where there is food and peace and water
…then imagine them without.
We can ask ourselves, “What else can I do to be the change that offers a chance to the future.” Perhaps, together we will discover that most of the time we don’t NEED anything… it’s the WANTs that makes gluttons out of our decent souls.
