Keeping your word never goes out of style.
When I think how some people hide behind the phrase “just kidding”, it always takes me back to a lazy hot summer day visit at my aunts house. I must have been no older than 8 years old, my mom and my aunt were making small talk and my cousin and I were playing dolls under the kitchen table and giggling.
Every so often I would hear my aunt make a statement, and then my mom would make a comment which was followed by my aunt saying…’oh, I was just kidding’…and then she would give out a hardy little chuckle. Later that evening on the drive back home, my mom made a comment to my dad about how some people put out feelers by hiding behind ‘just kidding’. My mother is not a woman to speak just to hear her voice… she speaks quality and people really enjoying listening to her (and still today, I am her number one fan). That day was crucial in the molding of my character… it is amazing how we learn valuable lessons.
I believe there is no need to kid around about how we feel about anything. It is important to honor our words and our feelings for it is a pure expression of who we are. To stand behind our words is paramount.
I can understand if it is a mechanism used among strangers to ‘feel’ out the other persons position on an issue, but our loved ones should always feel secure in our word.
Daisy Says: ‘Just kidding’. NOT! Say what you mean, mean what you say.
