Martial Law

How much do you know about Martial law and should we be concerned?

I just wanted to throw this out there.

Martial law is the system of rules that takes effect when the military takes control of the normal administration of justice. The martial law concept in the U.S. is closely tied with the right of habeas corpus, which is in essence the right to a hearing on lawful imprisonment, or more broadly, the supervision of law enforcement by the judiciary. The Military Commissions Act of 2006 possibly rescinds these limits by suspending habeas corpus.

In a New York Times editorial by Jane Smiley she comments: “for those of us who didn’t realize it, the Bush administration had inserted two provisions into October’s 2006 defense budget bill that would make it easier to declare martial law in the U.S. — this is laying the legal groundwork to repeal even the appearance of democracy. ”

Then there is presidential directive 51 basically makes our president a dictator. The President can seize any property or material for the use of the military or government, he can use private companies at his discression for the military or government, gives him full control of all agriculture and so on and so forth.

Then we have the Patriot Act makes one wonder, about the 9-11 incident.

While laws may mean one thing to one President, it can take on a whole new meaning years down the road under new administration. Would’nt you agree?

If Americans awaken to discover their freedoms have been imposed upon, can the U.S. Government control Americans in revolt?
