One of the things that I am learning to do is to stay focused on what is in front of me. Too often I’ve been caught up thinking a different version of what family should be basing it on how I came from a family with two brothers and over 13 aunts and uncles – that’s a LOT of cousins, which meant BIG family gatherings.
With only one child – there is can be no comparison and SHOULD not be. I believe that as we get older and our children unfurl their wings the feeling of an empty nest hits us as parents. So when Geordan pops over for a brief visit, our home takes on a new energy, I call it Geordan energy and for a brief moment we forget he’s a grown bearded man! (too funny how that happens).
Dottie was real curious about the visitor standing in my office…
Talking about empty nests… Geordan came by for a visit and discovered a baby wren had fallen from it’s nest, maybe it was ready to take off on its maiden flight and didn’t have the air-dynamic calculations right.
Geordan was born under an altruistic star, he is kind and generous, he loves animals and nature. No sooner had he seen the injured bird, he had us in “Let’s save the bird mode”. After observing the condition of the little wren, and seeing blood on the wing, if there were no alternative, I was ready to nurse the baby bird back to health. It was a Saturday and Geordan went through the directory looking for a animal rescue. Fortunately “Florida Wild” was only a few minutes drive and they were willing to take the bird in.
I personally have been blessed with Geordan’s passion for music and wanting more people to appreciate music, he invited us out to an open orchestral concert at UCF. It was beautiful.
It got dark pretty fast, it was a beautiful performance under a starry lit sky which culminated in an explosion of fireworks.
Life. What a gift. What’s the saying about Love? If you really love …. set it free. It comes back. Our little bird comes back and we get to feel, and see how Love just keeps on growing.
