He was 8 years old, when my son would water the garden. The sun cast his shadow on our fence, my heart filled with tears of sadness and joy because I knew that this little boy one day would be a man. I hurried to get my pencil and drew his little outline on the fence.
It was a rainy day in the Summer time when we decided to move from South Florida to Central Florida. The moving truck was getting ready to drive off; I had decided to do one last look around taking a look at the empty rooms. Remembering the happy days, the sound of music bouncing of the walls, the smell of morning coffee and lovely sunrises. Realizing that a chapter of my life was closing, a bitter sweetness in my heart. I walked out to the garden and my heart almost dropped when I realized that he was still out there watering the garden!
I hurried to let George know… we can’t leave him here!
With the rain falling on our backside, we rushed to find tools to saw off the fence and take our little treasure with us. Late at night we were running to the hardware store to purchase a piece of fence siding to cover the gap we left.
It was dark and wet by the time we finished installing the new fence… but the section that had our little treasure watering the garden was now with us again.
In the next few months he will turn 21, and while he is becoming a man… his little 8 year old shadow will always keep me company in the garden.
I love you Geordan.
